History of Food

The history of Food is long been adventurous and is forever evolving and changing.  In the Middle Ages cereals & oats remained the most important staple and were eaten by the poor.  Standard foods included bread, porridge, gruel and vegetables.  Meat was common on the tables of landowners.  The meals people ate were controlled by the seasons, geography and religious restrictions.

The 19th Century laborers ate bread, gruel, soup, greens, lentils, some cheese and very little meat.

The 20th Century began the introduction of the new food era.  Technology made it possible to make processed foods.  Huge production plants popped up, chemical fertilizers became popular and animal proteins became the preferred choice in the Western world.

Today we are blessed to have an abundance of food choices and sources for knowledge....
