Bring the water to a boil in a medium sauce pan.  Add the lentils once the water is boiling along with the salt.  Reduce to heat to simmer and cook for 45 minutes.

Step 1

Step 2

Place your diced onion in a small saute pan over medium heat and cook 1-2 minutes.  Add the carrots and jalapeno and cook for another 2-3 minutes.  Then set aside.

Grind your rolled oats in a food processor to get a fine texture.  This will allow for a smooth texture and the ingredients will blend well together.

Step 3

Step 4

In a medium mixing bowl mix the cooked ingredients with the pepper, soy sauce, basil, oats and breadcrumbs.  Blend all ingredients in the food processor if you want a smoother texture

When making your lentil patties you want to make sure you rinse your lentils and discard any pits.  If you don't like the spice or heat discard the jalapeno and this is still a great lentil burger.

Using a food processor will quickly chop & blend all the ingredients well after they have been cooked.

Choose your preference of burger buns or go without if you want a gluten free meal.
